The importance of milk:
Milk continues to play an important nutritional role for your baby at each stage of weaning. Since even at the age of one year the usual intake of milk contributes approximately one-third of the energy intake (Alexy U., Kersting M., What children eat and what they should eat, Munich, 1999).
The issue with too much salt:
Too much salt is bad for everyone, but it can be especially harming for babies and toddlers. Excessive salt must be removed from the body by the kidneys. Babies' kidneys are not well equipped to deal with excessive sodium, which causes accumulation of sodium. This can have an adverse effect on a baby's health.
The issue with sugar:
Sugar only gives babies energy. It does not provide babies with any other essential nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. Furthermore, excessive sugar can "train" babies to prefer sweet tasting foods later in life and isn't good for baby's teeth.
Some simple guidelines

To avoid until the age of 12 months:
- Food with too much salt
- Flavored food
- Onions, garlic, leek, beans & nuts, eggs
From the age of 12 months keep in mind the following rules:
- Please use only a very small amount of salt for your baby's food, the salt should be with fluouride & iodine
- Avoid too much flavored food
- Avoid drinks and food with too much sugar, preferred drink is water
- Keep on using the equivalent of 500 ml milk per day by the use of Follow-on Milk, Toddler Milk, fresh milk, yoghurt without colourings, flavour & sugar or low-fat cheese
